Calling upon the citizens to donate blood to the Red Cross Society, Chhattisgarh Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Tuesday termed the donation a great philanthropic work.
The Governor, who is also Chairperson of the Chhattisgarh unit of Red Cross Society, felicitated volunteers who donated blood, 60 NGOs and several institutes of higher education at a function at Raj Bhawan on the International Blood Donation Day.
She dedicated to the public a website of the society and an inaugural issue of a quarterly magazine published by it.
An ambulance for the Bijapur unit of the society was handed over by the Governor.
The Governor urged the society to prepare a booklet of blood donor students of educational institutions.
She said that there was lack of awareness for blood donation and people of rural areas had to run from pillar to post to arrange for blood.
