Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists on Wednesday took to the streets here to protest against unemployment and issues related to youths as part of its ‘Halla Bol’ programme in Chhattisgarh.
BJYM President Tejasvi Surya, a BJP MP, came to Raipur to take part in the event.
In his speech, Surya gave an ultimatum to the Baghel government to fill up all vacancies in the state by December. Otherwise, the BJYM will again stage a mammoth protest.
BJP and BJYM leaders and activists assembled near office of Raipur Municipal Corporation where senior leaders including Raman Singh, Arun Sao, Brijmohan Agrawal and Narayan Chandel addressed them. The protest threw traffic out of gear. Many were affected due to heavy barricading.
The BJP and BJYM activists wanted to gherao the Chief Minister’s official residence but were foiled by the police. Scuffles took place between the activists and police at two or three places. Around 450 leaders and activists were detained and released in the evening.
A government official said the gathering drew 8,000-9,000 persons. It was the first time the Chhattisgarh Police used containers used in ships to strengthen the barricades.
BJP leaders claimed the data on employment made by the Congress government were factually incorrect.
