BJP's vote share goes up against Cong

The BJP has managed to increase the difference of vote percentage with its Opposition Congress this time round in the lok Sabha polls. The BJP has received 49% votes whereas the Congress received 38% votes only.

On the other hand, the  Congress failed to maintain the difference of voting percentage which was just 0.75% in the assembly elections in the State. It has received 11% less votes than the BJP in the general election 2014.According to records, the Congress had received higher number of votes in Bastar, Kanker, Sarguja, Korba and Janjgir-Champa constituencies in Assembly elections.   The party was confident of getting better results in these constituencies in lok Sabha elections.

However, it failed to maintain the lead in these areas and the votes received by the party dipped in the entire State. The only change the Congress party can boast of is the Durg seat where it clinched the seat from BJP’s Saroj Pandey. In the assembly election, the Congress party had not performed well in Durg area but improved in the lok Sabha election.

There has been a regular increase in the vote per cent of the BJP in Chattisgarh for past four Parliamentary elections. In 2009 election, the BJP had received 45.27% and the Congress had received 37.07%. The difference was 8%.In 2004, the BJP had received 47.78% and the Congress 40.16% making the difference of vote per cent 7.62%. In 1999, the BJP had received 47.90% votes while Congress had received 43.38% votes and the difference was only 4.52% votes.
