BJP president Rajnath Singh claimed on Wednesday that his party would get the simple majority figure of 272 seats of its own in the nine-phase lok Sabha polls scheduled for April-May.
"The kind of massive support the BJP is getting from masses across the country, I am sure that the party would touch the 272 seats mark on its own," Singh told newspersons at Raipur airport in Chhattisgarh before leaving for Maoist-hit Kanker to address a meet of party workers. Welcoming the poll schedule announced by the Election Commission of India in New Delhi, the BJP chief stated that he was hopeful of a free, fair and credential lok Sabha polls. Singh said that the BJP would win all the 11 seats in Chhattisgarh, which goes to polls in three phases -- April 10, 17 and 24. In 2009 lok Sabha polls, the BJP had won 10 seats in Chhattisgarh and the Congress pulled off victory in just one seat, Korba.
