Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to defame the Chhattisgarh government by using the Enforcement Directorate as a weapon.
Baghel said this to the media following fresh raids on an IAS officer’s residence and offices of some businessmen in Raipur and Bhilai on Friday.
"I had earlier stated that the raids by the central agencies will continue in the state till the assembly elections. My prediction has come true,” he said.
The BJP in Chhattisgarh is unable to fight on development issues and was attacking the government by firing from the ED’s shoulders, Baghel said.
The ED on Friday morning raided the official residence of former Mining Secretary Anbalagan P. and some businessmen.
Coal trader Suryakant Tiwari, IAS officer Sameer Vishnoi, suspended Deputy Secretary Saumya Chaurasia, businessman Sunil Agrawal and Tiwari’s uncle Laxmikant Tiwari are in judicial custody in connection with an alleged scam. The ED earlier issued a provisional order for attachment of movable and 91 immovable properties under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
