The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will stage a sit-in demonstration on Wednesday at the block level from 1 pm to 4 pm across Chhattisgarh demanding that the government fulfil all the promises made to the farmers including on purchase of paddy.
Also, BJP will submit a memorandum to the SDMs addressed to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
BJP state President Vishnu Deo Sai said that now the central government has announced to take 60 lakh metric tonnes of rice in the central pool from Chhattisgarh. So, the state should buy 20 quintals of paddy per acre from farmers as about 90 lakh metric tonnes of paddy will be needed for 60 lakh tonnes of rice.
The central government has also given a fund of Rs 9,000 crore to the state government for this purpose.
Sai demanded that the government should start paddy procurement from November 1, like the BJP regime, and should not treat farmers like criminals.
He said that the paddy in the current kharif season is almost ready and the harvest of crops will start soon, but the government has not paid the support price of the paddy of the previous year so far.
The state government should stop providing the value of farmers’ produce in pieces, as there was a system of complete payment of farmers within 24 hours during the BJP regime.
The BJP leader said the state government should implement the new farm laws and ensure that the entire price of their crop is paid to farmers within 72 hours.
