BJP to oppose politics over skywalk: Munat

Published on:

nFormer PWD minister and BJP leader Rajesh Munat urged the Congress government not to politicise the public-utility related developments, which should be seen in positive note.

He was referring to the signature and other campaign started by the Congress against the Raipur’s skywalk project initiated by the erstwhile BJP government.

Munat addressing the media on Thursday at BJP divisional office said many projects such as canal linking road, marine drive, express highway of the previous government were opposed, but now people are getting benefits of those projects. These networks, including the ROB and underpass have helped in easing  pressure on roads, he added.

He pointed out that as per a survey conducted by the then government, around 27,000 pedestrians were passing Shastri Chowk while present survey by Congress government revealed 35,000 pedestrians are being caught in traffic. Therefore, skywalk had the plan to install escalators and lifts at key points like Tehsil office,  Shahid Smarak, Mekahara, collectorate etc.

Munat admitted that due to IT raids and further development, the agency could not complete the work. Had it been completed, no fingers would have been raised on its utility, he claimed.

He suggested that if government takes initiative to do some technical changes, BJP will support the development. But it will hit the streets if public money is wasted just for the sake of politics, the BJP leader cautioned.
