The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced suspension of its proposed protest march and ‘bandh’ against the arrest of former Minister Rajesh Munat on Monday on account of singer Lata Mangeshkar's death.

Former Minister and Raipur MLA Brijmohan Agrawal announced this during a condolence meeting to pay tributes to the legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar. The future course of action will be decided later, he said. Former CM Dr Raman Singh visited Vidhan Sabha police station and announced the suspension of agitation before media.

Munat and other BJP leaders were arrested on Saturday after a brawl between the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and Congress workers over showing black flags to the cavalcade of Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Police arrested all those involved and took them to Vidhan Sabha police station. Former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh with other leaders rushed to the police station and announced a march to Raj Bhawan and a ‘Raipur Bandh’ on Monday.

A sit-in-demonstration at the police station premises was announced till action was taken against police officials.

On Sunday, the agitation continued. Later, the police took Munat to a hospital for medical check-up as he continued to raise the issue of assault.

Meanwhile, Raipur police said a person wearing black dress was assaulted by BJP workers. Police intervened leading to the use of abusive words against the police personnel.

Munat protested at the police action.
