The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said a statement made by a Maoist leader on the May attack (Jeeram carnage), was politically motivated and the Opposition Congress was behind it.
BJP spokesman Shrichand Sundrani said the rebel leader Ramanna has given a statement that the attack carried out by the left wing extremists on Congress convoy in Bastar’s Darbha Valley on May 25 was not a political conspiracy. “If that was not a political conspiracy; then why the Maoists did not make such a statement soon after the incidentIJ” he asked.
What prompted the Maoists to give a clean chit to a Congress leader who is facing trouble withinIJ he asked. Sundarani said it was because the Congress is having nexus with the Maoists, he said. He also accused the Congress of creating a fearful atmosphere in Bastar area with the help of Maoists for cheap political gain. He also criticised Union home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for not making the National Investigation team report on the Maoist attack public and said he has been suppressing the report deliberately.
The Union Minister has cited rains as the reason for the delay in getting the report, which is laughable, he said. The Central Government is not making the report public only to protect its leaders who have been under scanners for having link with the Maoists, he said. It was also evident that the rebels may provide support to a top Congress leader in the state during the next month general election, he added.
Everybody knew that Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh had pointed his finger towards a senior state Congress leader after he faced opposition during his visit to the state. “People of Bastar will definitely teach Congress a lesson again this time the way they did in previous polls, Sundrani said.
