A high-level probe into irregularities in the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ in Chhattisgarh has been sought from the Central government, former Chief Minister Raman Singh said on Wednesday, adding a letter has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Interacting with the media, Raman Singh said the Prime Minister never sees public welfare schemes on political platforms. That is the reason he gave a major share of funds to Chhattisgarh for the pure drinking water supply scheme ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’.
“Central government guidelines were floated for allocation of tenders. Largescale corruption took place. Now after cancellation of the tender, the process of covering it up is underway. The fight was over the issue of commission. The central fund is being misused,” he said.
In Chhattisgarh, the central government funds of one head (Department) are spent on other heads. This information has been sent to the central government. In housing and other schemes, as state government has not given ‘matching grant’ due to which the schemes have been shut.
Answering a query, he said the state government has adopted step-motherly treatment to Rajnandgaon district. One by one departments are being closed down. The ADB Superintendent Engineer's office has been shifted to Durg.
Under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ scheme of ensuring pure drinking water through water supply, Chhattisgarh has a target to cover 41,32,535 families by 2023. The Central allocation for it is `7,000 crore.
