BJP seeks Governor’s intervention to stall indirect poll for civic body top posts

Former minister and senior BJP leader Prem Prakash Pandey said bypassing the powers of Chief Minister and cabinet enshrined in the     constitution, the cabinet     subcommittee had announced its recommendation to media even before cabinet cleared it.

Pandey was interacting with media on Wednesday after handing over the memorandum to Governor of Chhattisgarh Anusuiya Uikey over the state government’s decision to conduct indirect election for post of Mayor and Chairman in upcoming civic bodies.

Pandey said Governor has been urged not to entertain such undemocratic decision of the state government through an ordinance, violating the constitutional provisions of rights of the people.

He claimed the reservation process for civic bodies has been completed and revision of electoral roll is underway, then implementing such a decision will also hamper the process. The BJP leader stated that for indirect election process, anti-defection law is also enforced which do not exist in civic bodies.

Pandey claimed that    election is held with               participation of people and the decision of government is against their sentiments and public anger prevails over it. BJP will fight over the decision at all level, he said while answering to a query.

The BJP leaders organised a sit-in-demonstration at Motibagh and then marched to Raj Bhavan to hand over the memorandum.
