There is no plan to build a Food Park on the Sapre School ground, Raipur Mayor Aijaz Dhebar said on Monday, adding that work is in progress to give the ground and the nearby pond an international look for which around Rs 2 crores will be spent.

Countering all the    allegations raised by the BJP over the construction and beautification of Budhatalab (Vivekananda Sarovar), the Mayor said: “A kind of delusion is being created by a few people. In no way the ground size is being reduced."

He said that two months back, the tender for the project was released. The work has been undertaken as under the Smart City project.

“Budhatalab, the historical pond of the city, is being beautified. It is the life-line of capital city. For the last 25 years, no massive work had been undertaken. Finally, the blueprint is ready at a cost of Rs 2 crores.”

On beautification work, he said: “In first phase, the cleaning of water hyacinth has been undertaken. The second phase of work includes beautification of the outer part. Keeping in view the numbers it will attract, parking arrangement and traffic system along with widening of nearby roads will be done.”

“The third phase will have works on discharge point, beautification of neck area of the pond, repair of the steps, ‘Lakshman Jhula’ (Hanging bridge), floating deck,   electric poles and fountain. At present the planning is in the final stage and work will start only after seeking permission

The BJP's objections on the issue are clearly            sponsored, the Mayor said.
