BJP raises concern over loss to exchequer

At paddy procurement centres across Chhattisgarh, around 10 lakh tonnes of paddy have not been lifted. Had the custom milling process ended on time, the loss caused by rains could have been avoided, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Dharamlal Kaushik said on Tuesday.

In a video message to the media, the BJP leader pointed out that due to rains most of the stored paddy at the primary procurement centres have germinated.

Kaushik demanded that those responsible for lifting the paddy should face the music. The loss has been incurred due to officials linked with the custom milling process. Instead, officials are taking action against lower cadre employees based at the paddy procurement centres.

He said the state government has not announced a date for procurement of paddy for the current fiscal year. He suggested procurement should commence from November 1 so that farmers will get benefit and the milling process can be completed on time.
