The Congress in Chhattisgarh on Saturday accused the BJP of staging a protest sit-in here to divert public attention from a probe into the Skywalk project in which corruption has been alleged.
Raipur Mayor Aijaz Dhebar, Chairman Pramod Dubey and Congress communications chief Sushil Anand Shukla said a Youth Hub (Chowpathy) is being built near the Science College Ground, Raipur.
The project was approved during the erstwhile BJP government. It covered 80,000 square feet for a wide variety of works.
The work order for preparing an estimate was issued on June 4, 2018. The BJP Minister selected the site along with the Raipur Smart City Ltd, the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police.
They said the construction was going on for the last four months and 90 percent of the work had been completed. But now, the BJP leader under whom the project was conceived and designed was staging a protest. It is just to divert the attention of the public.
They said the protest was unwarranted in the educational hub where semester examinations were in progress.
They do not have the right to protest at the cost of students.
