BJP member Devjibhai Patel on Monday cornered his own party Government in the Chhattisgarh Assembly over the issue of IPS postings put under the control of General Administration Department (GAD) .

Terming it as a violation of constitutional norms, the ruling party member during the Question Hour asked ; ‘What are the rights of the Home Department over the issue of IPS postings and when the postings of the officers had been put under GADIJ’ Chief Minister Raman Singh replied that the administrative arrangement had been effected to provide better promotion opportunities to the IPS officers. He said that even the law Department had not spoken about any legal hurdle over the issue.

Patel later demanded justification of having two ‘In-charge’ ministers for a single cadre. To this, the Chief Minister replied that the postings of IPS officers is like an administrative arrangement which is why the Cabinet decided to put their matter of postings under the GAD. He said that such a system exists in many other States.
