Accusing the BJP Mayor of hampering development of the city, Congress Mayoral candidate from Ambikapur Dr Ajay Kumar Tirkey said that the Mayor even failed to implement the schemes of BJP Government.
Claiming that he was getting good response from the people, Dr Tirkey told The Pioneer that the dissatisfaction was clearly visible in the people. “The less literate masses often confused me and my supporters as BJP workers and were reluctant to meet us. Their initial reaction was that BJP misused the mandate of people”, claimed Dr Tirkey.
“The resentment among people for BJP could be judged from their reaction and they talked to us only after getting convinced that we were not BJP workers,” said Dr Tirkey who is also a doctor by profession.
According to Dr Tirkey no quality work has been undertaken in past five years in Ambikapur. Condition of drainage and water supply is pathetic and there is huge scope of work here.
“Different welfare schemes run by State Government were also not properly implemented. After shifting of old bus stand to outskirts of city there were several affected small businessmen who were not given proper compensation,” he said. He further said that the proposed transport nagar in city has also not been completed due to lackadaisical functioning of the Mayor.
“Other major issue in the city is health. Being a doctor I understand how to deal with public health issues and also how to get different schemes implemented on ground in effective way,” he mentioned.
