BJP leaders marched to the Raj Bhawan on Thursday, met Governor Anusuiya Uikey and denounced what they said was the inaction of the state government towards rising incidents of crime against women in Chhattisgarh.
The delegation led by BJP state President Vishnudeo Sai said Chhattisgarh was known for peace and communal harmony. But since a Congress government took power, there has been an unprecedented rise in crime rate, including incidents against women.
On July 2, in village Podhipat in Janjgir-Champa district, a 52-year-old woman was brutalized.
Similarly, every day 12 women in the state are assaulted in different forms, as per data released by the government, the Bharatiya Janata Party said, calling it a serious issue.
The delegation sought the dismissal of the state government over its "apathy" towards crime against women.
