The son of senior BJP leader Narayan Chandel, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, was arrested for allegedly raping a tribal woman, officials said on Friday.
Palash Chandel, who was absconding for a long time, was nabbed on Thursday night in Janjgir-Champa district. He was released on a bail of Rs 25,000 as he had got an anticipatory bail from the Chhattisgarh High Court, Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said.
In January, he was booked under the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for sexually exploiting a woman for several years.
A zero FIR was lodged in Mahila Thana in Raipur and then the case was transferred to the police in Janjgir-Champa.
