BJP instigating me against govt: Mangilal Agrawal

Published on:

Mangilal Agrawal, against whom a ‘sedition’ charge was pressed on complaint from the State Power Company and subsequently revoked after Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s intervention, created a political storm by claiming that a few BJP leaders were trying to persuade him to file a defamation suit against the state government and the power company.

The BJP, however, was quick to refute the charge and alleged that Mangilal’s claim was “Congress sponsored.”

Agrawal in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel thanked him for saving him from going to jail.

“After I was out on bail, a few district level BJP leaders approached me for filing a defamation lawsuit against the state government and the power company. However, I do not have any such mentality and a few people who are approaching me for their political gains, I would like to tell them that the Chief Minister is looking into my case and I completely trust him,” Mangilal said in the letter.

The BJP reacting on the letter said that the people were well aware of the “suppressive politics” played by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in Chhattisgarh.

The saffron party claimed that it was due to BJP’s opposition that the Chief Minister had to order withdrawal of sedition charge.

The Congress party engineered the letter, the BJP claimed in a press statement.

“The public awareness campaign that the BJP has launched against power cut and other wrong policies of the state government might have forced the Congress leaders to put pressure on the victim in a bid to improve the image of their Chief Minister,” a BJP spokesperson said.
