'BJP Govt is stifling voice of Opposition'

Reacting over the alleged fake case registered against two tribal Congress MlAs, State Congress president Bhupesh Baghel and leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Assembly TS Singh Deo accused the ruling BJP Government of stifling the voice of the Opposition and adopting an undemocratic attitude.

The Congress duo alleged that the State government, to take political revenge, has registered serious charges on the Congress MlAs and workers by mounting pressure on the police.

‘The Congress party would not keep silence on the violation of democratic values and the rights of elected peoples’ representatives,' they added.

According to a party press release, on April 22 night many serious criminal cases, including dacoity, loot, riot and kidnapping were heaped on the newly-elected Congress MlAs from Korba district Shyamlal Kanwar and RK Rai.

Whereas, incidents of disputes and brawls also took place among the BJP workers, over the distribution of money and liquor during the election campaigns, they said.

The leaders said that the Congress workers had reached the police station to file report against the BJP over the distribution of money and liquor during polls. The Congress MlA had also reached there. On getting information about the complaint, a crowd of BJP workers entered the police station and manhandled the complainants and the people who were present there.

The leader duo said that the BJP, by mounting pressure on the police, had registered serious charges of crimes against the MlAs, which was illegal and unethical. The Government, by misusing its powers, has been violating the Opposition’s right in performing its role in the democratic system. The BJP government has adopted repressive attitude by pressurizing the police, they alleged.

The Congress has taken seriously the criminal charges of dacoity, kidnapping and loot registered against the MlAs at Bandhapali and Kartala police stations in Korba district.

Singh Deo has demanded from the Director General of Police (DGP) to conduct an impartial probe into the case. He said that the State government should have worked as per the systems of democracy.
