'BJP Govt betrayed Chhattisgarh people'

Published on:

Women of Chhattisgarh do not have proper access even to healthcare facilities, kids are malnourished while the law and order system is in tatters as also the State Government failed to do anything worthwhile to curb the menace of Maoist insurgency despite Centre giving huge fund and adequate paramilitary jawans,” charged Congress president Sonia Gandhi questioning the audacity of the Bharatiya Janata Party led State Government which claimed all round development in Chhattisgarh.

Claiming that service, dedication and sacrifice being the tradition of the Congress party she said that’s the reason the United Progressive Alliance Government implemented MNREGA, land Acquisition Bill and other such public welfare schemes. If the Congress comes to power in Chhattisgarh, the State will see 36 times more development, she exerted.

Addressing a mammoth election rally at Ambikapur on Tuesday noon, Sonia said the Central Government gave thousands of  crores of rupees to Chhattisgarh, but the State Government failed to utilise them in public interest. She said the Congress always struggled for the benefit of poor, Adiwasis, and lower strata of the society. Providing development, employment opportunities to poor is the resolve of the Congress, she added.

launching a vitriolic attack against the BJP Government, she said that people of Chhattisgarh were fed up of Raman Government. Women and Tribal folks are continuously subjected to atrocities while poor, farmers and the common man were distraught over neglect. Poor Adiwasis are deprived of their land as well as forest. When the Congress will come to power all these issues will be solved. When the people of this mineral rich State would be able to use the resources only then prosperity would come in their life. Under the Congress rule poor will get 35 kg rice for free, power tariff would be rationalised, forest right papers would be distributed and each and every section would get some benefit. People of Ambikapur will also see expansion in technical education facility.

For the welfare of poor and stopping their migration the UPA government brought Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (Act) scheme, benefits of which are availed by people here. land Acquisition Bill brought by us also intended to stop forcible and unjust acquisition of land so that farmers land could not be taken against their wish as the BJP government.

“The development of Chhattisgarh during the rule of BJP has deteriorated. The Central Government has allocated crores of rupees for the development of the state, but even then children here are suffering from malnutrition. The Chhattisgarh Government has not given required attention to development, law and order is in shambles, and women are unsafe,” she said while addressing a rally here in the poll-bound state.

‘Women are not getting adequate healthcare facilities, and there is lack of education infrastructure. In rural Chhattisgarh there are no signs of roads or electricity. How do these people have the audacity to make tall claimsIJ” she questioned. Emphasising on various schemes introduced by the Congress for the welfare of the people, she further said that her party also brought the land Acquisition Bill, which ensures that no one can forcefully confiscate the land of the farmers.

“It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure that people here are able to avail the benefits of the scheme introduced by the Centre. But unfortunately, this is not happening here. People of Chhattisgarh have been betrayed,” she added.
