BJP flays Mahant's 'Naxalite brothers' statement

Condemning the statement issued by All India Congress secretary and Chhattisgarh in-charge Bhakt Charan Das at Rajim in which he had allegedly mentioned naxalites as ‘brothers’, the BJP State vice president and spokesperson Sachhidanand Upasane said that once again the Congress’ double face has come to the fore.

With this statement, he alleged, it has been proved that the Congress has direct relations with the naxalites and the party has only been playing politics in this issue. The Congress, always issuing contradictory statements in naxalite issues, was knowingly softening up the fight against naxalites, he added.

Addressing media persons here on Sunday, the BJP spokesperson said that his party knew from the beginning that Congress had been adopted a “seek and hide” policy in the naxalite issue. And under this policy they had been giving ‘mix signal’ to the naxalites, he alleged.

He said that the statement has exposed the Congress’ double character that on the one hand its leaders have been showing sympathy for the kin of the martyrs and on the other they say that naxalites, who have committed such barbaric killings, their ‘brothers’. It was a sorry State of affairs that even after such martyrdom the Congress has been continuing such contemptible act,

he added.

Upasane said that the Congress should not do cheap politics on the naxalite issue, on which the Prime Minister himself had said that it has been the biggest challenge before the internal security of the country. By issuing contradictory statements the Congress has been increasing the morale of the naxalites, he added.

He said that the BJP believes that it would be the true tributes to the martyrs when the naxalites were totally rooted out from the State and the country, on the contrary, the Congress says that coming into power in the State would be the tribute towards the martyrs. It shows the clear intention of the Congress that it is trying to come to power at any cost, he added.

Upasane demanded from the Congress that leaving aside its dillydally policy against the naxalite problem it should try to solve this sensitive issue. It should also put a rein on its leaders from issuing such incoherent statements, he added.
