BJP flays leasing of tourism units

Published on:

Leader of Opposition Dharam Lal Kaushik on Monday denounced the cabinet decision on providing ‘Hotel Bar License’ at concessional rate to lease 26 units operated by the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board.

Kaushik said the Congress government, which came to power with a promise to ban liquor, is now opening new outlets to serve liquor.

He said in the last three-and-a-half years of government, no discussion was held to impose a ban. Instead, the state has become a stronghold of liquor.

It seems the government is making liquor a legal and illegal means of earning, the BJP leader said.

The number of liquor shops have increased but not the revenue as expected. Even the funds collected through cess on liquor has not been utilized, he added.
