Chhattisgarh BJP has flayed the state government for alleged scrapping of ‘Unorganised Workers Marriage Scheme.’
Under the scheme daughters of unorganised workers were given Rs 20,000 as assistance at the time of marriage.
Claiming that the state government has stopped the scheme, the BJP said the government’s move would deprive daughter of poor unorganized workers of happiness, which was unexpected in a welfare state.
Former minister and BJP leader Mahesh Gagda said the erstwhile BJP government has started the scheme in 2008, helping lakhs of daughters with the financial aid to solemnize their marriage.
He accused the Congress government of backstabbing the poor by not giving the financial assistance.
He said due to the order issued by the government to withdraw the scheme lakhs of workers in unorganised sector would face financial problem while marrying off their daughters.
“It was the BJP which ran the social welfare scheme but it seems the new government does not have any social commitment,” he said.
Gagda said several schemes have been hastily withdrawn and over this issue the Opposition will stand with the people.
He further alleged that the economy of state is in doldrums.
The BJP has also tweeted urging the government not to withdraw the marriage scheme.
