Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday denounced the BJP for trying to take credit for paddy procurement. It is only the Chhattisgarh government which procures farmers’ paddy, he said.
He told reporters here that if the BJP claims that it bears the cost of paddy procurement from farmers, then the Modi government should procure it in Chhattisgarh through the Food Corporation of India as done in Punjab and Haryana.
In Chhattisgarh, the salary of staff involved in entire procurement process is borne by the state government, he said.
The state is auctions surplus paddy at Rs 1,300-1,400 per quintal while it is procured at Rs 2,100, he said.
The loss due to the difference amount is borne by state government and not the Centre, he adeed.
