'BJP deceives farmers'

Former Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president Dhanendra Sahu on Wednesday charged that the ruling BJP by mentioning to get support price of Rs 2100 per quintal of paddy along with Rs 300 bonus in its poll manifesto approved from the Centre, did so with the intention of deceiving farmers.

“The farmers growing paddy believed on the promise made by the BJP and once again the latter deceived the farmers,” he said in a statement issued here. Sahu said that the NDA Government at the Centre had hiked the support price for paddy by merely Rs 60 per quintal  by offering the support price of Rs 550 per quintal while during the UPA-I tenure between 2004 to 2009, the paddy support price was raised from Rs 550 per quintal to Rs 900 per quintal. Similarly, the UPA-II tenure between 2009 to 2013 has raised the paddy support price from Rs 900 per quintal to Rs 1330 per quintal, he said.

The former State Congress chief said that it is the responsibility of the ruling BJP government in Chhattisgarh to fulfil its promises made in its poll manifesto.
