Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday said that democracy cannot be safe in the hands of a single person and the BJP is crossing all limits in its bid to capture power at the Centre.
"The BJP is crossing all limits to capture power in this poll. Their behaviour is extremely dangerous for a democratic set up of our country,” Gandhi said at an election rally here without naming BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
She stated, “The elections will come and go, but the way they (BJP) are behaving and lying to the people of this country, it will harm democracy,''.
“We (Congress ) never discriminated between the State Governments of the Congress party and those of other political parties. We have always extended our full cooperation to Chhattisgarh,’’ the AICC president said at the rally, which comes under Surguja lok Sabha seat.
Gandhi alleged that though Chhattisagrh had received a large amount of fund under the Centrally-sponsored Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), local people in the State are still migrating to other States in search of employment.
“There is no Government which had undertaken as much developmental activities as done by the Manmohan Singh Government during its tenure,'' she claimed.
Chhattisgarh has a total of 11 lok Sabha seats and polling for four seats had already been held in two phases on April 10 and 17, and balloting for the remaining seven seats will be held on April 24.
