BJP condemns custodial death, seeks compensation

Published on:

nAttacking the Chhattisgarh government and questioning the police functioning, BJP state President Vishnudeo Sai has condemned the custodial death of a tribal sub-engineer Poonam Katlam.

He was reacting to Tuesday's death in custody at the Latori police outpost in Surajpur district.

In a statement, Sai raised concern over the insensitivity and autocratic attitude of the police. He raised the demand for a judicial probe and filing of murder charge against those involved.

He said that incidents  of crime are increasing across the state but the police have failed to control them.

He accused the government of using the police to settle political scores. With this agenda, the number of cases of custodial deaths have increased.

The worst affected are the poor, workers, tribals and women, he said. Police are now trying to cover up the case saying Katlam was already ill while the family suspects that police         physically assaulted him, leading to his death.

Sai demanded compensation to the grieving family and a government job to the nearest kin.
