BJP cadres clash with police as Expressway politics heats up

Amid political drama of allegations and counter allegations over the completion status of the Express Highway, former BJP Raipur City North MLA Shrichand Sunderani and party cadre forcibly ‘dedicated’ it to the public as per earlier announcement at Devendra Nagar square on Monday.

The police had stopped the MLA and party workers before the inauguration spot, but after pushing back police personnel they broke the ‘coconut’ and also cut the ribbon. The party workers also broke coconut at different parts of the Expressway raising slogans against Congress government.

Sunderani said, Congress government was given 15-days ultimatum to dedicate the route to public but it showed indifferent attitude towards it. “The Expressway road was constructed at a cost of Rs 293 crore by Raman Singh government and it was to be officially inaugurated but on October 6. But the State Assembly General election 2018 schedule was announced leading to imposing of election model code of conduct,” he said.

The new government did not also inaugurate it so on Monday, the BJP workers dedicated it to the public. He said BJP would continue to raise public oriented issues on regular basis and if needed would go for massive agitation.

Though Sunderani claimed completion of works, the construction work after land acquisition near Railway Station is incomplete while lighting arrangement has not been made yet.
