BJP against Spl session ahead of Marwahi election

Published on:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday opposed the Congress-led Chhattisgarh government's move to call a two-day special session of the state Assembly before the November 3 Marwahi Assembly by-election. BJP Election Legal Cell state coordinator Naresh Chandra Gupta led a delegation submitting a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer, pointing out that within a 58 days interval, the state government has moved a file to seek approval from the Governor to call the session. The letter argued that by holding the session, the Congress government is expected to take a policy related decision which is against the election model code of conduct and guidelines of the Election Commission. The BJP submitted that such a session would impact a free and fair election in Marwahi. The government should be permitted to hold the special session after November 3, the day of polling at Marwahi.
