BJP accuses govt of insulting citizens during CM’s ‘Jan Choupal’

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s maiden mass-contact programme, the ‘Jan Choupal’ on Wednesday courted controversy with the opposition BJP terming removal of  ‘Dupatta-Pagadi’ (Scarf-turban) of the visitors in the name of security drill as an “insult” to the people.

The people were reportedly asked by the security personnel to remove their ‘Dupatta-Pagadi’ before entering the CM’s official residence where the “Choupal” was held.

At the “Choupal” citizens are given an opportunity to directly convey their problems to the CM for early resolution.

The BJP, however, took serious exception to the security drill.

BJP leader and State spokesperson Sanjay Shrivastava interacting with media said, “The scarf and turban is a mark of ‘self respect’ which is traditionally worn by local residents. The security personnel in the name of security asked them to remove it before entering CM’s residence. This is nothing but double-standard politics.”

The BJP leader said how come the scarf-turban could be a security issue for the Chief Minister. He demanded of the Chief Minister to take stern action against the officials responsible for such behavior and seek unconditional apology.
