Bilaspur zone was declared overall Champion of the 14th state-level School Sports Competition which concluded here on Monday.
As many as 616 players and 85 officials from seven zones including Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Bastar, Surguja, Jashpur and Rajnandgaon participated in different sport events.
Bilaspur zone lifted the title of overall champion by securing maximum points in Baseball, Softball and Volleyball events in both boys’ and girls’ category in 14 and 17 years of age group.
Jashpur zone won the title of Volleyball event in 14-years of boys’ group while Surguja and Bastar zone secured second and third position, respectively. In the girls’ category, Durg zone secured first position followed by Surguja and Rajnandgaon holding second and third position, respectively. In 17-years of boys’ category Softball events, Jashpur lifted the title while Bilaspur and Raipur zone respectively came on second and third position. In the girls’ category events of this game, Raipur won the title followed by Rajnandgaon and Durg zone on second and third position, respectively. In both boys’ and the girls’ category of Baseball event, Bilaspur zone came first while Durg and Rajnandgaon zone secured second and third position, respectively.
Award distribution ceremony to felicitate the winning teams and players was held in the presence of Navagarh MlA, Dayaldas Baghel, Saja MlA, labhchand Bafana and Bemetara MlA, Avdesh Singh Chandel here at Diet Ground. The guests honoured the winning teams with trophy, certificates and awards.
While addressing the gathering, the guests asked the students for giving equal importance to academic and extra curriculum activities for overall development. They extended their best wishes for bright future of the students. A cultural programme was held to mark concluding ceremony of the state-level School Sports Competition.
