Bijapur remains cut off from divisional HQ for second day

Published on:

The incessant rain continuing for the last few days has put Bastar on the verge of inundation with most of the rivers in the area, including the mighty Indrawati, in spate. Bijapur along with more than 600  villages around it remained cut off from the divisional headquarters Jagdalpur second day on Friday.

The district headquarters of Bijapur presented a look of Iceland with waters of Mingachal River flowing five feet above the bridge located on the lone National Highway connecting it with other parts of the country. Also, in the heavy rains at least seven houses are reported to have been caved in at Bijapur. According to an unconfirmed report, a person was washed away in the swift current of flood water while he was trying to cross Ganesh Bahar Nala on Friday.

According to sources, though waters of Ganeshbahar and Bangapal rivers receded, due to high level of water in rivers and rivulets at Gilgichcha, Rudraram, Vaspulbagu and other places, traffic on Bhopalpatnam route remained obstructed creating hardship for people. Though level of water in Indrawati was under the danger line, continuous rains in its catchment area are likely to swell its level further raising the danger of flood. The flood has affected life of people as they were not able to even purchase daily need items. While seven houses reportedly caved in the flood water, district hospital’s boundary wall also gave in leading to great inconvenience to patients there.

Bijapur District collector and superintendent of police are monitoring  the flood situation round the clock and have asked officials to

continue rescue and

rehabilitation work without any hindrance.
