Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday reiterated his call for a nationwide caste census.
Talking to reporters here, Baghel said when Chhattisgarh can complete the social survey within a month, why cannot the census survey be conducted in the entire country.
The last census was done over a decade ago, and implementing welfare policies in the new scenario has become difficult, he said.
The census in 2011 collected only a demographic and a detailed survey including caste and their present status must be done, he said.
The condition of many castes has deteriorated and a detailed caste census can be used to benefit them with government schemes, he said.
