CBSE has issued a Circular offering another chance to Class IX students of schools under the Education Department of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) who fell short to fulfil the required criteria in re-exam conducted by schools during April 2014.
Such students will get one more chance for improvement of performance in Summative Assessment (SA) and scoring minimum 25% marks in summation of SA-I & SA-II for class IX students. As per CBSE guideline BSP’s education department is planning to conduct these EIOP (Eligible for Improvement Of Performance) exams for affected students of class IX in the first week of July 2014. A detailed time table will be notified shortly.
As per Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme introduced by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2009–2010, students in classes IX & X have to appear in four Formative Assessments (FA – I, II, III, & IV) and two Summative Assessments (SA-I & SA-II). Each formative assessment have a weightage of 10 marks each, i.e. a total of 40 marks and each summative assessment have a weightage of 30 marks each i.e a total of 60 marks in one academic session.
FA-I and FA-II are held in Term I (April to September), SA-I is held in September and is also part of Term-I. likewise FA-III & FA-IV are held in Term-II (October to March) which also includes SA-II. For promotion to higher class, a student has to secure minimum 33% or grade D in all the five subjects – Hindi / Sanskrit, English, Maths, Science and Social Science.
With the academic session 2013-14 CBSE has changed promotion norms, making it mandatory that in each subject the student gets a minimum of 25% in SA-I and SA-II combined besides 33% overall. Class IX students who did not get this 25% in SA-I & SA-II combined were given EIOP (Eligible for Improvement Of Performance) during April 2014 in applicable subjects (1 to 5) in which students failed to store 33% overall or 25% in SA-I & SA-II combined.
