Steel Melting Shop 2 of Bhilai Steel Plant, the flagship unit of the public sector steel giant SAIl, that supplies blooms and slabs for rolling into rails and plates, respectively, has recorded best-ever rolling of blooms for two consecutive months, a press statement informed on Sunday.
In May 2017, the shop recorded production of 92665 tonnes of blooms surpassing the previous best of 90795 tonnes recorded in May 2006. In June 2017, the shop recorded production of 94416 tonnes of blooms surpassing the previous best of 88120 tonnes recorded in June 2008.
It is worth mentioning that besides fulfilling the requirement of blooms of Rail & Structural Mill, the SMS 2 shop has also been fulfilling the requirement of blooms for the Plant’s new Universal Rail Mill, thereby helping the Plant to meet the increasing requirement of Indian Railways for long rails.
