Value based moral education is the need of the hour to counter the increasing crime and violence in the society, said Anila Bhedia, women and child development, social welfare minister.

She said schools should make special arrangement to impart such education as through moral education, steps can be taken to build a cultured and value-based society.

She was addressing as chief guest at a workshop on  the topic ‘Morality and Culture, Rights of Children’ organised by Chhattisgarh State Commission For Protection of Child Rights  at New Circuit House on Friday.

She said “Earlier in joint families children used to hear stories of morality, behaviour, life-style and character from their grandparents. But nuclear families do not have such ambience.”

Children linked with various crimes are brought in juvenile homes, she pointed out, adding to understand their behaviour, their background and family environment should be understood first.

State Child Rights Commission Chairman Prabha Dubey said apart from bookish knowledge, practical and moral values should be imparted.

Chhattisgarh State Assembly secretary Chandrashekhar Gangrade, who was chief guest at the concluding ceremony, said moral education is the foundation of school education.

Teachers should also follow moral values in their lives to reflect that on children.

Three brochures ‘Mor Mayaru Guruji’, ‘Ahvaan’, ‘Smajdhar Palak-Sashakta Desh’ and a short film was released on the occasion.

Meanwhile, police officers, volunteers and talented children of juvenile homes were felicitated for their excellent achievements.
