Bastar staff's stir to continue as secretary level talks fail

The five-day long indefinite strike of Bastar division government officials and employees continued on Tuesday and there was no any sign of coming to an end as their second round talk with secretary level committee broke-down without making any headway.

Notably, officials and employees of government departments in Bastar division are on indefinite strike from Friday last due to which works in government offices have come to naught leading to much inconvenience to people. The Government is aware of this inconvenience and trying to convince employees to call off their strike. However, the employees leaders are adamant on continuing their indefinite strike till their demands are met.

First round of talks were held between divisional commissioner and employees on Saturday which broke down without any conclusion. After that the state government formed a four-member secretary level committee headed by D S Mishra to hold talks with the striking employees.A 12-member delegation of Adhikari-Karmachari Sangharsh Morcha had come to Raipur to hold talks with the panel but the meeting again broke down without making any headway.

In the meeting the officials representing State Government reportedly told the employees delegation to end the strike taking in to consideration the inconvenience caused by the strike to common man.As far the employees demand of 45 percent risk allowance and 20 percent scheduled area allowance was concerned they were not authorised to take any decision and can put up their demands before the chief secretary.

On that the employees delegation told the panel members that when they don’t have power to take any decision on the demands of employees then holding talks with them has no relevance and thereafter the talk came to an abrupt end with employees deciding to continue their indefinite stir.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, employees leader Shiv Mishra said they too have the knowledge of  inconvenience of general public and that’s why doctors and nurses working under probation periods have been exempted from joining the strike so that emergency health services continue. Also, doctors have been asked to inform the union members if service of any other health worker is required in emergency case so that the concerned staff would be exempted from the strike as well, the employees leaders claimed.

Notably, all most all officials and employees of Bastar division are one strike in support of their demands – 45 percent risk allowance, 20 percent scheduled area allowance and four promotions in the career. Due to the strike, works in all fields including health, education have been completely paralysed.
