Bastar spared of Phailin fury

Due to the impact of cyclone Phailin, several parts of Chhattisgarh were reportedly lashed by speedy wind coupled with mild rain till Sunday evening. However, Southern part of the State, Bastar, bordering Odisha somehow remained safe as hardly any impact of the cyclone was visible.

Notably, in view of the ferocity of Phailin Cyclone which hit Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coast in the Bay of Bengal late Saturday evening and caused much devastation as well, the State Government had sounded alert in all the seven districts of Bastar Saturday.

The State Government had asked all the concerned departments of disaster management and relief to remain prepared in view of the Cyclonic winds heading towards Chhattisgarh and was likely to hit Bastar Sunday morning. Thankfully, except light rain and mild velocity winds, Bastar and for that matter Chhattisgarh was spared of greater impact of the Cyclone.

However, after the release of water from Khathiguda Dam, water level of Indrawati River was increased considerably even if it was still below the danger mark. The district administration was putting up lamp on the old bridge for safety of people as the water level was likely to go up further after heavy rains in catchment areas of the Indrawati river in Odisha.

In Capital Raipur, the weather remained cloudy throughout the day and some city parts received drizzles, but no major impact of the cyclone was seen.
