A day-long strike on Friday called by the All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), demanding unconditional mandate for the XIth bipartite wage revision has affected business of around Rs 1200 crore in Chhattisgarh.

Shirish Nalgundwar, General Secretary, Chhattisgarh Bank Employees Association said, “AIBOC, parent body of all bank officers held a day-long strike today while raising the demand for wage revision pending since November 2017.”

“The business of Raipur city which is the biggest Commercial Centre of Chhattisgarh is around Rs 500 crore while of the state stands at around Rs 1200 crore, he said.

Explaining on the banking business, he said, “Generally, during the strike, the clearance of cheques at national and state level is affected which is mainly business oriented, the cash deposits and receipts, business related receipts and other bank related dealings comes to a standstill. Thus, the amount of loss quoted is transactional loss to the banks.”

In state of Chhattisgarh, Raipur is the Commercial Centre which records highest bank transactions to the tune of around Rs 500 crores on average on daily basis; so it is a loss for the day if bank remains closed. If all the banks of the state are considered then it falls to loss in tune of Rs 1200 crores, Nalgundwar said.

“On Monday, the banks will remain open but there will be heavy rush of customers,” he pointed out.

He further said on December 26, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for strike, which will again affect the normal functioning of banks.
