BALCO sends first fly-ash rake for cement manufacture

Published on:

Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) dispatched its first rake of fly-ash to a cement manufacturer to aid in producing low-carbon cement. The aim is to ensure cent percent fly-ash utilization in a gainful manner.

Abhijit Pati, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of BALCO, said: “We believe in leveraging next generation technologies to minimize, recycle and reuse byproducts and industrial wastes from the manufacturing process.

"The company through innovative ways and novel solutions for environment management is working to reduce carbon footprint. We look forward to greater partnership between BALCO and the cement industry for utilization of fly-ash to make greener and more sustainable products,” he said.

Though the company has been supplying fly-ash to many cement manufacturers in the vicinity, the dispatch via railway was the first, said Pati.

The company has also partnered with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under ‘Bharatmala Project’ for building roads with fly-ash.

It has signed a MoU with Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, to use green concrete solution for road construction inside the plant as well as nearby areas.

Fly-ash being a voluminous byproduct of thermal power generation will not only aid in sustainable construction but also ensure environmental sustainability in the long run, added Pati.
