Baghel wants urgent assessment of crop loss

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday called for a quick assessment of damage caused to crops and houses due to untimely rains and hailstorms.

Immediate necessary assistance should be provided to the affected people under the provisions of the Revenue Book Circular, he said in orders to the district Collectors in the state.

Chhattisgarh has been hit by untimely hailstorms and heavy rains since Tuesday. Rains continued till Wednesday evening. Standing crops and huts in rural areas have been damaged in several areas.

The Chief Minister asked the Collectors to install cover and ensure drainage of water to save the paddy stored and brought by farmers at the paddy procurement centres from rain and hailstorm, an official communication said.

With rising cases of Omicron across the country, Baghel called for adoption of all precautionary measures to prevent Omicron and Covid-19 infection.

Covid testing in all districts should be increased. All necessary preparations should be made in hospitals for tackling emergency situations. District and health department staff should remain alert to monitor the status of infection, he said.

People should be directed to strictly adhere to Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB), he added.

He said that vaccination drives for the adolescent children (15 to 18 years) will start from January 3. Similarly, booster doses will be administered to health and frontline workers and people above 60 years of age suffering from serious diseases from January 10.
