Baghel stresses on electoral reform fearing EVM manipulation

Chhattisgarh chief minister and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday said that as all political parties except NDA constituents have expressed their apprehension over counting through Electronic Voting Machines fearing manipulation, an electoral reform must be initiated.

Baghel was talking to media persons here at party’s state headquarters Rajiv Bhawan after observing anti-terrorism day to mark the death anniversary of late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Taking about EVM rigging, he said “each and every political party in the country, except those in the NDA, has raised their fear of possible manipulation.”

He also questioned the role of Election Commission of India and said it was under influence of the Union government.

Baghel, however, rejected the exit poll results and claimed that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was going to get more than 300 seats in the general elections.

Replying to a query, he further termed the ‘Maun-Vrat’ of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the BJP candidate from Bhopal, a political drama, and said her views on Mahatma Gandhi had come to fore following her statement that Nathuram Godse was a ‘patriot’.
