In order to check depleting water level and for the sake of future generations, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday urged officials not to compromise on the quality of groundwater restoration and conservation work.
He was addressing a virtual programme organized by the Forest Department from here.
On the occasion, Baghel launched the works approved by the state government under the ambitious 'Narva Vikas' programme in 2022-23 in 40 forest divisions at a cost of over Rs 300 crore under CAMPA head.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated laboratories established in the forest circles of Raipur, Bilaspur, Kanker, Jagdalpur and Surguja for quality testing of forest produce and products.
He launched the eco-tourism development works in the Mahasamund Forest Division.
Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister said that Narva Yojana was important for increasing green cover and boosting the income of the people in forest regions.
This scheme should be given the form of a movement keeping in view its importance.
The Narva development will not only ensure availability of adequate quantities of water for wildlife in the forest areas but will also encourage farmers to opt for double cropping which will eventually help to increase the biodiversity, he said.
