Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday promised to upgrade Pendra-Marwahi as revenue district during his tenure.
The process will commence soon, he said while addressing a public felicitation and meeting organised at Lohari area under Marwahi assembly constituency.
While addressing the gathering, he made the people of Pendra-Marwahi to give assurance that they would not fight over the issue.
“It was from the Marwahi assembly constituency that Congress national president Rahul Gandhi had announced that the farmers’ loan will be waived off if Congress forms government in the state,” the CM recalled.
He added, “Within two hours of the formation of the government and even before Rahul Gandhi had reached New Delhi, the loan waiver was announced by the government.”
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Baghel said, “It is not like the promises made by the prime minister—Rs 15 lakh will be credited in each bank account--which have not yet been fulfilled.”
It is reported that during the tenure of the previous BJP government, when revenue districts were formed, residents of different regions had opposed the move and started demanding separate district status. Following such demands, a few places were given the status jointly, like Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara and Janjgir-Champa.
The demand for creation of Pendra-Marwahi district had been doing the rounds for some time now as people are finding it difficult to travel to Bilaspur for their works.
