Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday inaugurated Chhattisgarh's first sewerage treatment plant built at a cost of Rs 54 crore at Balikonta near Jagdalpur.
On the occasion, he also performed an 'aarti' on the banks of river Indravati while praying for the prosperity and betterment of the state.
Emphasizing the importance of cleanliness of the river and other water sources, Baghel appreciated the work done by the Bastar district administration and Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation to establish the first sewerage treatment plant.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister visited the sewerage treatment plant.
The foundation stone of the plant was laid in August 2019 by Baghel. Its construction was completed within the stipulated time-frame.
At Jagdalpur, about 180 lakh liters of polluted water is collected daily in Dalpat Sagar and Indravati river. Due to the presence of bacteria, turbidity and increased pH value, this water used to pollute the water of Dalpat Sagar and Indravati river.
For the purification of this contaminated water, it is transported to Balikonta through a pipeline of about 10 km. This water will be further released into river Indravati after purification in the constructed plant.
