Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has appealed to farmers to get their Kharif and horticulture crops insured, saying a little premium will foil losses if rains fail.
A communiqué quoted the Chief Minister as saying that the government was providing the facility of crop insurance to farmers at the lowest premium amount.
The farmers have to pay just 2 percent of the premium amount to insure Kharif crops and only 5 percent in the case of horticulture crops, he said.
Baghel said the insurance claim can cover both crop loss due to weather uncertainties and natural disasters as well as fall in production.
Under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, farmers can get paddy (irrigated and non-irrigated), arhar, moong, urad, corn and horticulture crops insured by July 15, he said.
Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country which has first paid the crop insurance claim amount for Rabi season 2021-22 to its farmers.
Even before the start of Kharif season, the state paid claims of Rs.304.38 crore to more than 1.5 lakh farmers in lieu of premium paid by them.
