Avoid self-medication for stress

Covid-19 patients and those who have recovered from it have been advised not to indulge in self-medication to avoid further complications.

Raipur District Hospital (Pandri) based Psychologist Dr Avinash Shukla said in a statement that there has been an increase in stress or anxiety among older adults, care providers and people with underlying health conditions after the second Covid wave.

Insomnia cases have increased, he said.

It has been found that patients with increased stress or anxiety have been indulging in self-medication. He cautioned them against this and asked them to consult doctors before taking any medicines to avoid complications.

Many patients have reported lack of sleep after the second Covid wave. Every individual needs a certain amount of sleep based on their age, he added.

Therefore, excess or less sleep impacts negatively on the body. Therefore a fixed routine of sleep and waking up should be fixed, even during holidays.

In addition, he asked people to avoid excessive use of mobile phones, consumption of drugs and food intake including tea and coffee.
