The State Government has taken a new step under its special drive of eradicating malnutrition. As many as 9 lakh children aged between 6 to 9 years will be distributed flavored nutritious milk in the 50,000 Aanganwadi and Mini Aanganwadi centers once a week under the Mukhyamantri Amrit Yojana, stated State Women and Child Development Minister Ramsheela Sahu on Saturday.
Notably, Mukhyamantri Amrit Yojana is being launched with a purpose to bring down the malnutrition level in Chhattisgarh. The state government has a provision of around Rs 25 crore for this new scheme, informed the Minister.
According to Sahu, in past one decade there has been a significant decline in the malnutrition cases due to the efforts taken by the State Women and Child Development Department. In 2005, the malnutrition level was 52 percent which has now come down to 29.89 percent in 2015.
The minister further informed that to prevent the children from malnutrition the Chhattisgarh government is carrying out the Nava Jatan Yojana as well. Moreover, the weight of the children below five years is measured during Weight Festival in the month of June every year. Sahu said the festival is being conducted since 2012.
