Sanitation workers on contractual appointment at Chhattisgarh’s biggest Government medical facility Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar hospital in Raipur are on a warpath.
The workers stopped work on Monday and after carrying on their agitation for two days, threatened the hospital administration on Wednesday to intensify their agitation while demanding ‘permanent appointment’ in the post of ‘cleanliness workers’ with an immediate release of order for continuation of services of 60 daily wage workers who were removed by the administration after it roped in a private Raipur-based company to take up cleanliness jobs in the hospital.
The workers have warned of staging a sit-in in front of the hospital building if their demands are not conceded by the hospital administration within three days. What actually triggered the resentment of contractual workers was the removal of daily wage workers by the hospital administration .
The workers on the second day of their agitation on Tuesday had even gone to the bungalow of the State labour Minister in support of their demand. On Wednesday they assembled in hospital compound where a group ‘Vidyarthi Morcha’ joined hands with the agitating cleanliness workers in support of the workers’ demand. The workers later met, Deputy Superintendent of the hospital Dr AP Padarah and put up their demand.
